Director, Mechanical Engineering (Hardware): Leading the development of complex electromechanical sleep fitness products, including the flagship Pod and new hardware roadmaps, with an accent on technical leadership across thermals, fluids, and mechanisms. Location: On-site in San Francisco (5 days/week)

Salary: $225,000 – $300,000 + Equity

What you will do

• Lead all aspects of mechanical engineering across the full development cycle, managing mechanical, soft goods, and prototype engineers.
• Provide technical leadership on architectural decisions spanning thermals, fluids, mechanisms, and sensing.
• Shape and execute the hardware product roadmap in collaboration with the CPO and executive team.
• Manage high-volume production scaling and ensure supplier delivery in Asia.
• Hire, coach, and manage a high-performance engineering team, implementing design reviews and phase gates.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience developing complex electromechanical systems (consumer electronics, automotive, or medical devices).
• 2+ years of direct experience managing mechanical and product design engineers.
• Proven track record of launching successful products under aggressive timelines with lean teams.
• Deep knowledge of injection molding, electronics/sensor integration, DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
• BSME or equivalent degree.
• Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed.
