Additive Manufacturing Engineer - Applications (DED)

Location: Los Angeles, CA; on-site. Travel up to 15–20%, primarily within the U.S. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for ITAR compliance.

Salary: $135,000–$250,000 per year. Relocation support may be provided in certain situations, based on business need.

What you will do

• Translate customer requirements and design intent into feasible Directed Energy Deposition manufacturing plans.
• Evaluate part and program feasibility, identify technical risks, and support DED application development.
• Provide DfAM guidance covering deposition strategy, feature design, access, heat input, distortion, machining stock, and post-processing.
• Define workflows across design, deposition, post-processing, inspection, certification, and production readiness.
• Develop and industrialize DED processes, improve repeatability, investigate quality issues, and drive corrective actions.
• Support qualification planning, validation builds, test plans, NDT strategy, first article activities, documentation, and customer approval.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical, materials, aerospace, manufacturing, welding, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in additive manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, applications engineering, process engineering, or metallic additive technology development, preferably with DED.
• Hands-on knowledge of metal DED production workflows, including design, pre-process planning, deposition, post-processing, inspection, and qualification.
• Experience with DfAM, welding metallurgy, heat input control, residual stress, mechanical performance, engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection planning.
• Experience supporting parts from prototype through qualification or early production, with strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or otherwise eligible for the authorizations required under ITAR.

Nice to have

• Aerospace and defense manufacturing experience, including qualification of flight-critical or mission-critical hardware.
• Process validation, capability studies, statistical process control, DOE, first article execution, or aerospace quality-system experience.
• Experience with wire-based or powder-fed DED, robotic toolpaths, CAM, welding simulation, or thermal-mechanical modeling.
• Metallurgical experience with copper, nickel-based superalloys, titanium, aluminum, or other high-performance alloys.
• Experience with metrology, NDT, heat treatment, ERP/MRP/MES, SAP, or related production systems.
