TL;DR
Applied Research Scientist (Life Science): Translating research questions into analytical approaches using EHR data for life sciences partners with an accent on real-world evidence generation and methodological rigor. Focus on designing cohort studies, mitigating bias, and delivering scalable statistical analyses to drive clinical insights.
Location: Hybrid / Remote; must be authorized to work in the United States. In-person attendance required at least once per year. Meeting hours are optimized for Pacific Time (PT).
Salary: $130,000 – $160,000

What you will do
- Partner with life sciences customers to translate complex research questions into technical analytical approaches.
- Execute studies and produce high-quality results using SQL, R, and Python on datasets containing 120M+ patients.
- Provide technical analytics support and directly troubleshoot customer analysis, code, and notebooks.
- Guide customers on best practices for real-world evidence (RWE) generation, including study design and bias mitigation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to investigate data quality and provide feedback for the product roadmap.
- Support the development of peer-reviewed publications and high-quality research outputs.
Requirements
- Authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship available for F-1 OPT, H1-B, etc.).
- Degree in clinical research, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, clinical informatics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a technical customer-facing role delivering research studies and analyses.
- 3+ years of experience wrangling and analyzing Electronic Health Record (EHR) or other Real World Data (RWD) sources.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, R, and/or Python for statistical analysis.
- Experience leveraging distributed computing frameworks to analyze large-scale healthcare datasets.
Nice to have
- Advanced degree (MS, MPH, PhD) in epidemiology, biostatistics, or health economics.
- Experience with Spark/PySpark or distributed data processing.
- Knowledge of advanced statistical methods such as regression, propensity score methods, and survival analysis.
- Proven track record of contributing to peer-reviewed publications or conference abstracts.
