Data Center Operations Technician

TL;DR

Data Center Operations Technician: Support customer requests and day-to-day operational activity within a 24x7 colocation environment with an accent on remote hands services, structured cabling, interconnection support, physical-layer validation, and alarm response. Focus on executing cross-connect installs, cable testing, equipment checks, server reboots, visual inspections, and maintaining operational discipline.

Location: On-site in Columbus, OH. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. No visa sponsorship available.

Salary: $28 - $35 an hour

What you will do

• Execute remote hands services including reboots, media swaps, visual inspections, cable tracing, and basic physical-layer tasks
• Install, test, label, and maintain structured copper and fiber cabling, patch panels, and cross-connect infrastructure
• Provision and troubleshoot customer and carrier interconnection services within physical-layer scope
• Monitor alarms, perform rounds and readings, validate conditions, and escalate issues
• Maintain documentation for cross-connects, connectivity paths, capacity tracking, and operational activities
• Support rack-and-stack, optic swaps, cable management, data center cleanliness, and secure access procedures

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2+ years in data center operations, structured cabling, telecom, or IT support preferred
• Hands-on experience with copper/fiber media, patching, cable testing, and physical-layer troubleshooting
• Strong attention to detail in labeling, documentation, and precise work in live environments
• Ability to recognize and escalate abnormalities; comfortable with 24x7 shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; no sponsorship
