What you will do
- Act as a strong IC in the first month, shipping meaningful features and contributing directly to the codebase.
- Own and optimize the engineering hiring process, including designing technical challenges and running screens.
- Lead and mentor the team through regular 1:1s and pragmatic performance evaluations.
- Own system design for major projects and scale the product for mid-market customers (RBAC, sub-workspace collaboration).
- Drive the AI product roadmap, defining backend architecture for agentic compliance workflows and intelligent evidence collection.
- Promote AI-assisted engineering practices across the team using tools like Cursor and Claude.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend/product engineering experience at a principal level, owning complex systems end-to-end.
- 1–3 years of engineering management experience (1:1s, performance conversations, and hiring).
- Must be based in EMEA and able to work in CET/CEST timezone.
- Strong hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools (Cursor, Claude) and production-grade LLM/RAG systems.
- Proficiency in OOP fundamentals and Java Spring Boot, Hibernate, or equivalent.
- Proven startup experience and ability to handle ambiguity without a rigid playbook.

- Recent production experience with modern Java applications.
- Experience establishing salary bands or engineering hiring processes from scratch.
- Previous experience working in a fully remote company.
