Principal Applications Engineer (PVD)

What you will do

• Develop PVD processes to meet technology roadmaps and customer requirements.
• Develop advanced deposition technologies across a range of materials and applications, including new hardware and process concepts.
• Design experiments, operate analytical equipment, and assess results using appropriate software.
• Investigate complex process issues through troubleshooting, problem-solving, metrology, and data analysis.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, papers, invention disclosures, and patent applications.
• Supervise junior engineers, advise field and Newport teams, and coordinate with cross-functional project teams.

Requirements

• Doctorate, master's, or bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science with related work experience.
• Knowledge or experience in thin-film deposition, plasma systems, and high-vacuum technology.
• Ability to design experiments and analyse data to identify solutions to complex problems.
• Analytical skills, including metrology such as SEM, plus strong written and oral communication.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
• Availability for some international travel and occasional shift work is required.

Nice to have

• Experience or knowledge of computer simulation methods.
