What you will do

• Build and maintain backend messaging systems using Ruby on Rails, including SMS/voice delivery pipelines and Twilio integration layers.
• Develop consent management workflows, message scheduling, and orchestration systems.
• Collaborate with Product, Customer Success, and Data teams to deliver features that deepen patient engagement and health outcomes.
• Contribute to architectural decisions regarding delivery optimization and AI-driven message categorization.
• Provide technical documentation for messaging features and participate in On-Call (PagerDuty) activities.
• Participate in team rituals, code reviews, and technical debt reviews to improve team efficiency.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of software engineering experience with solid proficiency in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript.
• Experience building and maintaining backend systems, APIs, and services.
• Working SQL proficiency with a strong analytical mindset for troubleshooting and data-driven decisions.
• Must be based in the USA.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for a fully remote environment.
• Experience with automated testing as a standard part of the development lifecycle.

Nice to have

• Experience with Twilio (SMS, Voice, Messaging APIs) or similar communication platforms.
• Experience with RCS (Rich Communication Services) or MMS multimedia messaging.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL, Google Cloud Platform, and background job processing (Sidekiq).
• Familiarity with healthcare technology and messaging compliance (TCPA, A2P 10DLC, TCR).
• Experience with event-driven architecture or high-throughput delivery pipelines.
