TL;DR

Principal Game Designer (Strategy): Designing immersive game systems and content for the Total War franchise with an accent on feature ownership and player experience. Focus on researching, implementing and balancing complex gameplay features and setting quality standards for the design pipeline.

Location: Hybrid in Horsham, UK (cannot offer fully remote working)

What you will do

  • Take full ownership of multiple game features from research and documentation to implementation and balancing.
  • Develop immersive systems and content that align with the game's pillars, themes, and vision.
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline developers to ensure high-quality feature delivery from concept to release.
  • Establish design standards and best practices to improve the overall design pipeline.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced designers within the discipline.

Requirements

  • Significant games industry experience with a track record of shipping titles from start to finish.
  • Strong ability to analyze gameplay features and recommend data-driven improvements.
  • Proficiency in Excel for balancing large datasets, progression systems, and unit stats.
  • English: Fluent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Location: Must be based in or able to relocate to the UK for hybrid work in Horsham.
  • Must provide a motivation letter with the application.

Nice to have

  • Experience as a Senior or Principal Designer on shipped titles.
  • Deep knowledge of Total War or Strategy genres (Grand Strategy, RTS, 4X).
  • Scripting skills in LUA, C#, or similar languages.
  • Experience with modding or using metrics to drive design.
