What you will do

• Define and own the safety architecture for the Driver Out autonomous system, establishing system decomposition and safety mechanisms.
• Derive functional and technical safety concepts from HARA outputs and allocate requirements to AV system components.
• Own and manage the safety plan according to UL 4600 and ISO 26262 to ensure timely product launches.
• Identify AI/ML-specific safety risks and define architectural mitigations such as runtime monitors and safe fallback behaviors.
• Create and review safety work products including HARA, FSC, TSC, FTA, FMEA, and DFA.
• Collaborate with perception, prediction, planning, and control teams to embed safety requirements throughout the lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• 7+ years of related work experience, with at least 3 years in autonomous vehicle or advanced robotics system architecture.
• Demonstrable exposure to AI/ML safety challenges in safety-critical applications.
• Must be based in Ann Arbor, MI.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or Computer Science, specifically in AI safety or autonomous systems.
• Prior experience authoring a UL 4600 safety case or equivalent structured safety argument (GSN/CAE).
