Engineering Technical Leader (Interiors)

TL;DR

Engineering Technical Leader (Interiors): Lead team of Design and Release Engineers in Interior IP, Console, Mechanisms and Decorative Trim programs with an accent on safety, quality, technical excellence, and flawless execution. Focus on driving technical design reviews, issue resolution, strategic innovation, and people development across GM vehicle portfolio.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan (expected to report to office at least 3 times a week). GM does not provide immigration sponsorship (no H1-B, OPT, etc.). Travel <25%. Must legally operate a motor vehicle.

What you will do

• Lead high-performing team of IP/Console/Deco/Mechanisms DREs across programs to deliver GVDP milestones with engineering excellence.
• Serve as technical expert for interiors components, conducting design reviews aligned with BOM strategies and performance requirements.
• Drive DFMEA, robust design, peer reviews, and DFSS for global quality improvements and cross-program consistency.
• Lead escalated issue resolution with validation, manufacturing, and global teams.
• Collaborate with Design Studio, architecture, and suppliers on innovation, technology roadmaps, and supply chain assessment.
• Inspire, coach, and develop DREs and technical specialists, fostering accountability and technical depth.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering
• 15+ years automotive engineering experience in Instrument Panel, Deco, and Floor Console development
• Expertise in injection molded trim, foam-in-place, thermoformed skins, cut and sew wrapping, and performance requirements/regulations
• Strong component/subsystem design, engineering fundamentals, vehicle integration, and early development to launch
• Proven people leadership, cross-functional communication, ambiguity management, and global collaboration skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with discipline and execution

Nice to have

• Master of Science in Engineering or MBA
• DFSS Green/Black Belt
• Prior leadership in IP/Console/Decorative Trim engineering
• Experience leading cross-program strategy and enterprise alignment
• Patents and technical recognitions
