TL;DR
Manufacturing Execution Engineer - General Assembly Optimization (Manufacturing Automation): Designing and deploying General Assembly optimization projects, tooling, equipment, and material-flow strategies across vehicle assembly plants with an accent on automation integration, lean processes, and launch execution. Focus on coordinating complex projects, solving unusual manufacturing challenges, managing budgets and validation metrics, and supporting on-site plant launches.

Location: Hybrid role based in Warren, Michigan; reporting to the specific location at least 3 times a week. Regular travel of 25–50%, including travel within the U.S. and internationally, is required. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead General Assembly manufacturing optimization projects from ideation through planning, budgeting, design, installation, launch, and continuous improvement.
  • Define manufacturing and product changes covering tooling, automation, workstation layouts, facilities, and equipment.
  • Analyze material flow and design future-state material movement strategies and lean processes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across Manufacturing Engineering, Plant Production, Industrial Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance.
  • Direct vendors and internal plant teams through equipment design, construction, integration, commissioning, and launch support.
  • Manage project timing, resources, budgets, validation metrics, savings, risks, status reporting, and engineering deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience and 3+ years supporting manufacturing launches.
  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, process engineering, General Assembly, BOP, and BOE.
  • Experience leading multiple complex projects independently, including resource coordination, timeline tracking, reporting, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Strong analytical, data management, presentation, problem-solving, collaboration, influencing, and change-management skills.
  • High proficiency with Teamcenter, AutoDesk, and Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Visio, Project, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

  • Experience scoping, designing, integrating, and commissioning General Assembly automation projects.
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on familiarity with General Assembly tooling automation concepts and best practices.
