Hardware Development and Validation Engineer (Engine Lube/Vent Automotive)

TL;DR

Hardware Development and Validation Engineer (Engine Lube/Vent): Plan, develop, and execute engine lubrication and ventilation tests with an accent on hands-on test bench work, data analysis, calibration support, and test efficiency. Focus on diagnosing issues, optimizing test plans, implementing data reduction, and migrating lab activities to virtual methods.

Location: Hybrid/lab-based in Pontiac, Michigan with significant onsite time in the test facility (at least 3 days/week). No immigration sponsorship provided (H1-B, OPT, etc.).

What you will do

• Execute engine lube and vent testing across multiple programs on dynamometers and test benches.
• Develop and implement first-time capable tests, lead diagnosis and resolution of issues.
• Track test status, issues, and risks to support program milestones.
• Create post-processing tools (Excel, MATLAB) for data quality and efficiency.
• Analyze data to optimize plans, reduce test time, and support virtual model development.
• Collaborate with teams to streamline testing, pursue virtualization, and improve procedures.
• Train and mentor new engineers on bench operations and standards.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related.
• 5+ years in automotive engineering with engine knowledge (diesel/gasoline).
• Drive for results in lab/development environment.
• Strong planning, problem-solving, communication, and prioritization skills.
• Proficiency with computer/data acquisition systems and data analysis.
• Experience with MATLAB scripts for analysis and post-processing.

Nice to have

• Experience with AVL PUMA/IndiCom and ETAS INCA software.
• Engine calibration in test cell/vehicle.
• 7+ years in engine development/testing.
• Hands-on engine dynamometer setup/testing.
• Engine hardware/subsystems including lube/vent.
