TL;DR
CAE Analysis Engineer--Engine Performance & Calibration (GT-SUITE/GT-POWER): Developing and validating 1D engine simulation models for gasoline and diesel architectures, including intake and exhaust systems, with an accent on performance, fuel consumption, transient behavior, and engine calibration. Focus on building reduced-order models, optimizing valvetrain profiles, modeling advanced engine technologies, and translating analysis results into hardware and controls recommendations.

Location: Hybrid role based in Pontiac or Warren, Michigan, United States; on-site attendance is required at least 3 times per week. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

Company

Develops vehicles and mobility technologies spanning hardware, battery systems, software, safety, and entertainment.

What you will do

  • Develop GT-POWER and GT-SUITE 1D engine simulation models for gasoline and diesel architectures, including complete intake and exhaust systems.
  • Simulate full-load, part-load, and transient engine operation to evaluate torque, power, fuel consumption, controls, and vehicle performance.
  • Build medium- and fast-running models, process engine operating and fuel-mapping data, and generate virtual data or calibrations for embedded engine controllers.
  • Develop analytical methods for boost devices, exhaust gas recirculation, variable valve lift, emissions controls, and aftertreatment systems.
  • Optimize valve lift profiles, interpret component- and system-level results, and provide design recommendations to responsible engineers.
  • Collaborate with test engineers to validate models and develop post-processing and automation tools using MATLAB and Python.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or physics.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience, including 3 years in propulsion simulation or virtual engineering.
  • Fundamental understanding of combustion engines and modeling with GT-SUITE 1D CFD software.
  • Experience with engine dynamometer testing and data analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguity, develop new capabilities, and create standard work.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or physics.
  • 5+ years of experience with GT-POWER, WAVE, or similar software.
  • Experience in engine calibration, controls, model-based calibration, and engine testing.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or AVL software.
  • Programming experience and knowledge of the vehicle development process.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work arrangement with regular on-site collaboration.
  • Potential eligibility for relocation benefits.
  • Benefits supporting employee well-being at work and at home.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on belonging, safety, and professional development.
