Backend Engineer

TL;DR

Backend Engineer (Java): Design and build new features or enhance existing backend systems and services supporting hirify.global’s financial products with an accent on automation, reliability, and scalability. Focus on improving codebase maintainability, resolving production issues, and optimizing distributed systems for high business impact.

Hybrid in-office US-based work in San Francisco - Bay Area, New York, and Seattle (Palo Alto, CA / New York City, NY / Seattle, WA / San Francisco, CA).

Salary: $140,000 - $185,000 plus equity and discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design and build new features or enhance existing backend systems and services with automated instrumentation and monitoring.
• Improve codebase maintainability and stability by fixing issues and adding enhancements.
• Triage and resolve operational issues in production as part of on-call rotation.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve system reliability and scalability.
• Participate in recruiting, interviewing, career fairs, and mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

• 2-6 years of experience developing backend components, services, or APIs in Java or similar language.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, functional programming paradigms, SQL, and online data stores (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server; NoSQL okay).
• Passion for agile, test-driven development, continuous integration, and automated testing.
• Experience working on platforms and backend systems with measurable business impact in a fast-paced cross-functional environment.
• BS or MS in computer science or related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spark pipelines.
• Knowledge of ORM like Hibernate.
• Experience with dependency injection frameworks (Guice, Spring, Pico, Dagger).
