Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Location: Baltimore or Columbia, Maryland, or Fairfax, Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule at a high-profile government location in the Washington, DC metropolitan area

Salary: $90,000–$197,000 USD annual national pay range

What you will do

• Conduct design reviews, commissioning services, construction surveys, inspections, and performance testing for fire protection, fire alarm, sprinkler, smoke control, and life safety systems.
• Evaluate designs, submittals, as-built drawings, system sizing, maintainability, operability, and compliance with applicable building, fire, life safety, NFPA, and UFC requirements.
• Develop statements of work and provide technical support to building owners, management offices, clients, and project stakeholders.
• Apply fire and life safety engineering principles to develop performance-based solutions for challenges not addressed by prescriptive codes.
• Evaluate existing facilities, perform egress, building height and area, hydraulic, and smoke control calculations, and recommend improvements.
• Prepare technical letters and reports, analyze code-cycle changes, and support inspection, testing, and maintenance activities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in life safety, active and passive fire protection, fire alarm systems, code consulting, design review, inspections, and commissioning.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
• Excellent technical report writing, presentation, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Fire Protection Engineers and project stakeholders.
• Ability to provide full-time technical support at the specified government location in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Experience with performance-based fire engineering design.
