Senior/Associate Fire Engineer (Fire Safety)

Location: Based from offices in Belfast, Birmingham, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, or Manchester; hybrid, part-time, and flexible arrangements may be discussed.

What you will do

• Conduct site-based investigations, record evidence, and analyse fire incidents.
• Review technical documentation, manuals, maintenance records, standards, regulations, and published guidance.
• Investigate design and construction defects, cladding issues, and internal fire safety defects.
• Prepare preliminary advice and detailed technical expert witness reports for clients and Court proceedings.
• Work with solicitors, developers, public bodies, clients, and experts appointed by other parties.
• Provide impartial expert evidence in Court and respond to detailed questioning by a Barrister.

Requirements

• Degree in Fire Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• Established professional background in fire safety engineering, including cladding and site experience.
• Chartered Engineer status or active progress toward Chartership.
• Experience designing fire safety systems for residential apartments and commercial buildings, with knowledge of relevant design codes.
• Extensive fire engineering experience, including expert witness work in UK and/or Irish jurisdictions.
• Excellent communication, client-facing, teamwork, and technical explanation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-profile litigation, tribunals, public inquiries, or regulatory investigations.
• CEng status with a recognised UK or Irish institution, such as IFE or Engineers Ireland.
• Membership in the Institution of Fire Engineers or Engineers Ireland.
• Experience with cross-border casework and multi-jurisdictional standards.
