Principal Engineer (Facades)

Location: London, England, United Kingdom; the role can be based in any UK office. Hybrid, part-time, and flexible working arrangements may be discussed.

What you will do

• Lead technical delivery for moderate- to high-complexity façade and external wall projects.
• Apply independent engineering judgement to façade systems, fire performance, remediation strategies, and compliance pathways.
• Prepare and oversee external wall fire assessments, including PAS 9980 appraisals, façade engineering reports, and technical notes.
• Review façade build-ups, materials, fire stopping, cavity barriers, test evidence, certifications, and remediation proposals.
• Identify technical risks and develop proportionate mitigation strategies.
• Lead client and multidisciplinary technical discussions, support quality assurance, and mentor developing engineers.

Requirements

• Degree in engineering, architecture, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• Significant experience in façade engineering and/or external wall fire consultancy.
• Strong understanding of façade systems, construction methods, and performance requirements.
• Experience preparing or reviewing PAS 9980 appraisals or similar risk-based assessments.
• Ability to lead technical workstreams independently, write structured reports, and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers; chartership or active progress toward chartership is strongly preferred.
