Salary: $136,000—$228,000 USD (varies by location: CA excl. SF Bay, CO, IL, NY, WA)

What you will do

• Design and operate highly available PostgreSQL clusters with physical/logical replication, sharding, partitioning, and automated failover.
• Optimize query performance, indexing, schema design, capacity planning, and high-availability strategies including multi-AZ/region and disaster recovery.
• Develop automation for provisioning, backups, failovers, vacuum tuning, and schema management using Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes Operators.
• Build monitoring, alerting, and self-healing systems for PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Lead incident response for performance issues, replication lag, deadlocks, and storage failures; conduct root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with engineers on SQL reviews, schema optimizations, migrations, and best practices.

Requirements

• 4+ years hands-on PostgreSQL in high-volume, distributed production environments
• Deep PostgreSQL internals knowledge (WAL, MVCC, vacuum tuning, query planner, indexing, logical replication)
• Production MySQL experience (InnoDB, replication, tuning)
• Advanced SQL, schema design, query optimization
• Linux systems, networking, troubleshooting
• Automation with Go or Python
• Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, pg_stat_statements)
• Cloud environments (AWS or GCP)
