What you will do

• Own the reliability, availability, performance, and security posture of shared data systems including Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, and MariaDB.
• Develop high-touch abstractions and self-service workflows for provisioning, schema evolution, and routine maintenance.
• Automate repetitive operational work and improve diagnostics using programming and AI-assisted workflows.
• Partner with internal engineering teams on data access patterns, query optimization, and safe adoption of infrastructure.
• Enhance observability, alerting, SLOs, and runbooks to reduce incident frequency and resolution time.
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience operating production-grade stateful or distributed systems.
• Solid software engineering skills in Python, Rust, Go, or similar languages for infrastructure automation.
• Practical experience with Kubernetes, especially regarding stateful workloads, storage, and failure modes.
• Strong fundamentals in Linux, networking, and systems troubleshooting.
• Experience with observability, alerting, and post-incident improvement processes.
• Must be based in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
• Knowledge of NoSQL systems such as MongoDB, ClickHouse, or Cassandra.
• Proficiency with Terraform, GitOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Expertise in query tuning, replication, clustering, or high-availability design.
• Experience with data engineering technologies like CDC, Kafka Connect, or Flink.
