Location: Remote and based exclusively in the United States; candidates based anywhere in the US; may not hire in all states; requires travel to team retreats 2x/year and periodic travel 1-2x/month.

Salary: $170,000–$193,000 per year

What you will do

  • Direct technical strategy and architectural decisions for scalable, robust systems enabling rapid experimentation.
  • Guide product cycles from prototype to launch, establishing processes for high-quality delivery.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow engineering team through 1:1s, coaching, and performance management.
  • Build cross-functional relationships with non-technical colleagues for alignment and collaboration.
  • Shape processes for short/long-term projects and AI integration in workflows.
  • Build AI-powered features tackling democracy challenges like elections security.

Requirements

  • 10+ years software engineering experience, including 5+ years direct people management
  • Track record leading/scaling high-performing teams across initiatives
  • Excellent team/project management for clarity on priorities
  • Experience with prompt engineering and vision for AI tooling integration
  • Strong technical foundation in software development and architecture
  • Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Passion for using technology/AI to strengthen democracy

  • Thrives in early-stage environments with incomplete information
  • High emotional intelligence for feedback and relationships
  • Experience communicating with external stakeholders
