TL;DR

Measurement Software Engineer (AI Lab Automation): Design and implement the software backbone of autonomous lab platform translating high-level AI decisions into precise hardware commands with an accent on high-concurrency execution engines, scalable data pipelines, and safety guardrails. Focus on architecting fault-tolerant systems, integrating diverse lab instruments, and enabling closed-loop semiconductor and photonic development.

Location: Toronto, Canada (flexible work arrangements in one of our offices)

What you will do

  • Design unified APIs and SDKs for AI agents to control laboratory instruments like oscilloscopes, analyzers, and lasers
  • Build high-concurrency engines to orchestrate parallel measurements across multiple test stations
  • Architect data ingestion pipelines and storage for high-frequency streams queryable by AI models
  • Implement guardrails, runtime validation, and fault-tolerant systems with logging and monitoring
  • Integrate measurement outputs with modeling frameworks for closed-loop hardware development

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related
  • 4+ years building production-grade software systems
  • Strong Python (packaging, type hinting, modular architecture)
  • Experience automating lab/industrial hardware via VISA, SCPI, TCP/IP, gRPC
  • Designing/maintaining SDKs, APIs, control frameworks
  • Structured data formats (HDF5), time-series DBs, concurrent/async systems
  • Reliable systems where hardware safety or integrity is critical

Nice to have

  • Rust or C++ for performance-critical code
  • Docker for deploying measurement runtimes
  • Hands-on electro-optic measurements of dies, wafers, chips
  • Software testing, reliability, observability
  • High agency and self-starter mindset
