Tokyo, Japan / Hybrid. This position is based in Tokyo, Japan and will require you to relocate. This is not a full remote position.

What you will do
- Lead propulsion architecture definition and modeling for lunar mission elements like orbit transfer vehicles, landers, and orbital infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain Python-based propulsion models for sizing and system-level tradespace analysis.
- Assess, compare, and select propulsion options including pressurization, feed systems, engine cycles, and components to optimize KPIs.
- Investigate cutting-edge propulsion technologies and generate recommendations for R&D roadmaps.
- Support R&D projects including technology demonstrations and customer-driven developments from concept to testing.
- Contribute to business development and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on system integration.
Requirements
- BSc or Master's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering fields.
- Five or more years of relevant experience in analytical modelling of chemical propulsion (pressurization, feeding systems, boil-off, propellant management, rocket engine cycles, mass/fluid budgets).
- Solid understanding of mission-level propulsion considerations (delta-V budgeting, propellants, feedsystems, sloshing, mission environments).
- 3 years of experience with modelling languages like Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib) or MATLAB.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, ambiguous conceptual environments with proactive technical ownership.
Nice to have
- Experience in propulsion component selection trading off compatibility, schedule, and cost.
- Experience with advanced propulsion like cryogenic and hybrid rocket systems.
- Experience in systems engineering using Model Based Systems Engineering.
- Experience with conceptual design methods, low-fidelity modeling, or early-phase systems engineering.
- Experience using Git for version control in CI/CD environments.
