What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems powering the core platform including REST APIs with Python/FastAPI
• Develop production systems using PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch, Celery, and Temporal for data workflows and async processing
• Architect and optimize high-throughput backend workflows handling large-scale datasets
• Build, deploy, and manage services on AWS with containerized deployments and CI/CD pipelines
• Define backend architecture, observability, performance practices, and support integrations
• Mentor engineers, collaborate with AI, frontend, and product teams, and contribute to AI-enabled workflows

Requirements

• Strong backend experience with Python and deep hands-on with FastAPI
• Production experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch, Celery, and Temporal
• Proven REST API development, large-scale datasets, AWS deployments, containers, and pipelines
• Experience building B2B/B2C SaaS backends, integrations, data pipelines, and workflow automation
• Prior Staff/Lead/Founding Engineer or Architect role in startups with high ownership
• Ability and willingness to relocate to Northern VA/DC

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-enabled products, search-heavy systems, multi-tenant SaaS, or event-driven workflows
• Building scalable platforms, balancing speed/reliability, mentoring while hands-on
• HR tech, recruiting tech, or tools like Cursor/Claude Code for developer productivity
• Scaling early-stage teams and working with product/leadership
