What you will do

• Own the technical roadmap for Tax Engineering, driving architecture for cost basis tracking, withholding automation, and reporting infrastructure.
• Lead and coach a team of 12 engineers (IC4–IC6), fostering a culture of technical excellence and operational rigor.
• Design extensible tax primitives for new products, including equities, margin, and options, ensuring infrastructure is ready from day one.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Trading teams to translate complex regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
• Drive the delivery of mission-critical systems, including 1099-B and 1099-DA broker reporting pipelines and clearing integrations.
• Shape engineering processes, testing strategies, and data validation to ensure absolute correctness in a high-stakes financial domain.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in scaling distributed systems.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience, including coaching and performance management.
• Technical depth equivalent to a Staff Engineer, with the ability to dive deep into architecture and code.
• Proven experience building data-intensive financial or compliance systems where accuracy and auditability are critical.
• Ability to responsibly integrate generative AI tools (e.g., Gemini, Glean) into daily workflows to drive efficiency.
• Must be based in Canada (indicated by salary and benefits).

• Experience with tax systems, cost basis engines, or 1099 reporting infrastructure.
• Familiarity with equities, options, or margin trading domains.
• Background in a tech-focused company, such as a fintech or high-growth startup.
