TL;DR

Avionics Fabrication & Integration Technician (Flight Simulation): Building and integrating advanced flight simulator cockpits and avionics hardware for Air Force research and mission rehearsal with an accent on hardware fabrication, MIL-SPEC standards, and system calibration. Focus on translating engineering designs into functional high-fidelity training devices and integrating real-world LRUs.

Location: On site at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Proof of U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Secret clearance are required.

What you will do

  • Build and assemble simulator sub-systems, including instrument panels, consoles, and flight control interfaces.
  • Modify and integrate real-world Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and glass cockpit displays into simulated environments.
  • Fabricate complex wire harnesses and interface cables connecting aircraft hardware to PC-based simulation computers.
  • Collaborate with AFRL engineers to iterate on breadboard designs and rapid prototypes for new research initiatives.
  • Perform system-level power-on testing, signal tracing, and calibration of flight controls to match aircraft performance data.
  • Maintain accurate as-built electrical schematics and wiring diagrams within a controlled DoD lab environment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in avionics or electronics fabrication supporting DoD programs or military flight systems.
  • Proficiency in MIL-SPEC soldering, crimping, and wire-routing standards (e.g., IPC-WHMA-A-620).
  • Ability to integrate COTS hardware with military-grade avionics.
  • Skill with diagnostic tools including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and signal analyzers.
  • Familiarity with basic machine shop tools for modifying enclosures or mounting brackets.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience at Wright-Patterson AFB or within an AFRL-supported environment.
  • Background in flight simulation platforms such as Link or hirify.global.
