What you will do

• Lead design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the internal controls assurance programme aligned to principal risks, regulations, and strategic priorities.
• Oversee assessments of control design and operating effectiveness, setting standards, approving scopes, and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
• Provide independent challenge and insights to executive management and governance committees on control effectiveness and remediation.
• Act as senior advisor, developing team capability and influencing stakeholders to strengthen control design and efficiency.
• Develop innovative assurance methods using continuous monitoring and AI.

Requirements

• Location: Hybrid in Manchester, UK with minimum 50% office time
• Significant experience leading internal controls assurance or risk-based assurance in complex/regulated organisations.
• Ability to lead end-to-end assurance activities including planning, scoping, quality review, and conclusions.
• Strong professional judgement for forming assurance opinions and engaging senior stakeholders (ExCo/Committee level).
• Deep knowledge of internal controls frameworks, assurance methodologies, and regulatory expectations (e.g., UK Corporate Governance Code).
• Excellent analytical, communication, and critical-thinking skills for presenting to executives.
