CPU Core Senior Physical Design Engineer (VLSI): Performs physical design implementation of custom CPU designs from RTL to GDS to create a design database ready for manufacturing with an accent on synthesis, place and route, clock tree synthesis, floor planning, static timing analysis, power and noise analysis. Focus on verification signoff, optimizing power, frequency, area, and collaborating closely with logic, circuit, architecture, and design automation teams.
Location: US, California, Folsom (hybrid work model: split time between on-site at assigned site and off-site)

What you will do
- Implement physical design flow for CPU including synthesis, place and route, clock tree synthesis, floor planning, static timing analysis, power/clock distribution, reliability, and power/noise analysis.
- Conduct verification and signoff: formal equivalence, static timing, reliability, power integrity, layout, electrical rule checking, structural design checking.
- Analyze results, recommend improvements to CPU microarchitectures, collaborate with logic, circuit, architecture, and design automation teams.
- Apply CPU expertise in physical clock design, timing closure, coverage analysis, multiple power domains, structured placement, routing, synthesis, DFT.
- Work with EDA vendors to enhance tools for high-speed, low-power synthesizable CPU.
- Optimize design for product parameters like power, frequency, area; develop physical design methodologies and flow automation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's in computer engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or STEM + 6+ years OR Master's + 4+ years experience
- VLSI circuit design and synthesis
