TL;DR

Vice President, Deputy General Counsel – Commercial (SaaS): Lead the global commercial legal team in structuring, negotiating, and closing complex sales agreements and transactions with an accent on SaaS business models, revenue recognition, data privacy, security, and AI/ML issues. Focus on partnering with sales, product, engineering, and finance to manage risks, scale processes with AI-driven tools, and drive revenue growth.

Location: Based in Menlo Park (California) office. This is not a remote position.

Salary: $360K - $472.5K

What you will do

  • Lead commercial attorneys in project-managing, structuring, negotiating, and closing complex sales agreements and transactions.
  • Partner with sales, finance, product, engineering, professional services, and support on revenue-driving deals and risk management.
  • Implement scalable processes, AI-driven workflows, automation, and tools with Legal Operations to boost efficiency.
  • Own commercial legal processes from intake to execution, track KPIs, and report to executives.
  • Support global procurement, advise on legal/business risks including AI, privacy, and security, and handle escalations.
  • Develop training, playbooks, and best practices for sales teams and stay ahead of evolving legal landscapes.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of relevant commercial legal experience supporting sales organizations, and 8+ years of in-house management, preferably in high-growth SaaS.
  • Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school and active license to practice law in the U.S.
  • Outstanding analytical, drafting, negotiation, communication, and judgment skills for pragmatic risk assessments.
  • Strong SaaS expertise in revenue recognition, data privacy, security, tax, IP, AI, professional services, and go-to-market programs.
  • Experience with legal tech tools, AI solutions, metrics tracking, and scaling processes in fast-paced environments.
  • Proven leadership to build trust, manage teams, handle escalations, and collaborate cross-functionally.

Nice to have

  • Experience with highly regulated cloud customers (FinServ, healthcare) and Public Sector entities.
  • Knowledge of emerging AI legal developments.
