Academic Lead Teacher - Elementary

Academic Lead Teacher - Elementary: Instruct self-contained classrooms for refugee youth in grades K-5, teaching Writing, Literacy, and Math with an accent on culturally responsive, trauma-informed, differentiated instruction for multilingual English Language Learners. Focus on creating lesson plans, administering assessments, facilitating parent conferences, and fostering social-emotional development and community.

Location: Onsite in New York City, NY, USA for the entirety of the program. All applicants must be willing to be in-person.

Compensation: $32.00 - $32.90 per hour

What you will do

• Plan and instruct culturally responsive, trauma-informed lesson plans for 15-25 multilingual students using sheltered instruction approaches.
• Submit detailed daily lesson plans, slide decks, and materials in advance.
• Administer formative and summative assessments to inform curriculum design.
• Facilitate parent conferences and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families for student success.
• Review student progress, maintain evidence portfolios, and finalize report cards.
• Supervise students during lunch and incorporate Classroom Culture Leads and peer mentors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field required; Master’s preferred.
• New York State teaching certification preferred; minimum 3 years instructing in NYC DOE or equivalent for relevant age group preferred.
• Demonstrated success with culturally responsive, trauma-informed curricula for diverse beginner to intermediate ELLs.
• Strong differentiated instruction, project-based learning, cultural humility, relationship building, and classroom management skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English required.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively; highly organized and dependable.
• Pass background checks and submit annual physical form; fingerprinting may be required if at NYC public school site.

Nice to have

• Second language proficiency (Arabic, Dari, Farsi, French, Fulani, Haitian Creole, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian).
• Certification/Experience in Responsive Classrooms or Classroom Mindfulness.
