Senior Civil Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Civil Engineer (Renewables/Energy): Leading the design and delivery of civil infrastructure for energy projects including renewables, data centres, and power generation with an accent on site development, drainage systems, and earthworks. Focus on multidisciplinary coordination, hydraulic analysis, constructability assessments, and resolving complex technical challenges in site layouts.

Location: Hybrid in Glasgow, UK office (3 days per week office-based, flexibility to work from home otherwise; full office for first 3 months). UK work experience required. Occasional travel to sites and client offices. Visa sponsorship available for Skilled Worker Visa transfer only.

What you will do

• Lead civil site development for renewables and energy projects, including BESS, solar arrays, access roads, platforms, earthworks, drainage, and cable routing.
• Design and approve surface water/foul drainage systems, SuDS schemes, attenuation, and pumped systems compliant with standards.
• Conduct hydraulic analysis, drainage assessments, Flood Risk Assessments, and greenfield runoff estimations.
• Prepare complex deliverables like drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations for earthworks, pavements, foundations.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage geotechnical/environmental data, and liaise with clients/contractors.
• Mentor junior engineers, provide technical leadership, and handle project packages including budget, programme, and risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Some experience of civil site development and enabling works in the UK
• Some experience of civil engineering design
• Ability to travel to sites for visits, assessments, and potential secondments.

Nice to have

• MSc in related field
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards
• UK project experience in drainage design, substation layouts, external works
• Knowledge of construction feasibility and client relationships
• Proposal/tender preparation experience
