TL;DR

Orbital Safety Analyst (Space Defense): Solve operational orbital mechanics problems and process data for orbit states and predictions with an accent on conjunction assessment, proximity operations, and collision avoidance. Focus on integrating information across functional areas to enable customer situational awareness and decisions.

Location: Onsite at Vandenberg SFB, CA. US Citizenship required. Must have active TS/SCI clearance.

Salary: $85,000 - $110,000

What you will do

  • Provide expertise to solve operational orbital mechanics problems and process data for orbit states and predictions.
  • Coordinate and integrate information across multiple functional areas to develop products for customer situational awareness.
  • Work on conjunction assessment, proximity operations, and other orbit analysis tasks.
  • Handle real-time analysis and solutions for technical and operational problems, including crew work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship and active TS/SCI clearance.
  • 2+ years of space-related experience in Space Situational Awareness, satellite catalog maintenance, orbital analysis, and collision avoidance.
  • In-depth knowledge of orbital mechanics, astrodynamics, space object tracking sensors, networks, and data.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based OS (Red Hat/Fedora) and Space Force’s Astrodynamics Support Workstation or similar tools.
  • Ability to apply orbital mechanics knowledge to operations including orbit determination, perturbations, decay, and maneuvers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Nice to have

  • Technical degree in Aerospace/Engineering, Space Operations, or Physics.
  • Experience in orbital/space science data and non-regular data message management.
  • Ability to create short programs in Perl or other scripting languages for data processing.
  • Ability to multitask and apply innovative analysis in dynamic environments.
