TL;DR

Nuclear Stockpile Stewardship Subject Matter Expert (SME): Serve as primary advisor on sustainment, safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile with an accent on policy development, program oversight, and stakeholder coordination. Focus on analyzing stockpile requirements, supporting life extension programs, and ensuring alignment with national strategy across DoD and interagency levels.

Onsite full-time in the National Capital Region, including the Pentagon and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, DC.

What you will do

• Serve as primary point of contact and provide guidance on nuclear stockpile stewardship requirements.
• Deliver expertise on current and projected nuclear stockpile, including warheads, bombs, and delivery systems across National, DoD, Joint, and Service levels.
• Review, analyze, and recommend actions on sustainment, life extension programs, and modernization initiatives.
• Coordinate with stakeholders across DoD, OSD, Joint Staff, Navy, NNSA, national labs, and production facilities.
• Support Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Memorandum (NWSM) and Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan (SSMP) processes.
• Assess weapon system development, acquisition, and deployment for alignment with national strategy.
• Participate in technical discussions, working groups, and forums representing Air Force equities.
• Analyze nuclear weapons effects data, test results, and scientific assessments for policy and planning.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance with SCI eligibility.
• Bachelor’s degree in international relations, political science, national security studies, or related field.
• Minimum 15 years of professional experience in national security.
• Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear stockpile stewardship across National, DoD, Joint, and Service levels.
• Experience coordinating with DoD and non-DoD nuclear enterprise organizations.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

• Experience in complex multi-stakeholder environments.
• Developing executive briefings, drafting papers, and preparing leaders for engagements.
• Familiarity with DoD/NNSA PPBE process for nuclear enterprise.
• Understanding of nuclear weapon system lifecycle phases.
