TL;DR

Exercise Planner (Defence): Support Australian Army’s Combat Training Centre in developing, coordinating and executing advanced collective training activities with an accent on exercise design, planning documentation, and alignment with readiness outcomes. Focus on integrating with Core Events teams, coordinating scheduling and scenarios, and contributing to post-activity reviews.

Location: Primary onsite at Lavarack Barracks, Townsville, Australia; travel required to Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney and training areas (up to 15 trips annually); work in barracks, headquarters, and field environments.

What you will do

  • Integrate with Core Events planning teams to design and prepare complex land training exercises.
  • Develop exercise planning materials including plans, briefings, and documentation.
  • Attend planning meetings, working groups, and training design forums.
  • Coordinate scheduling, movement, scenarios, and activity requirements.
  • Support preparation, execution, and post-review of major training events.
  • Maintain compliant exercise files and contribute to continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • NV1 (SECRET) security clearance or above
  • Experience equivalent to O3–O4 military level (Combat Team to Brigade planning or higher)
  • Background in military staff planning, exercise design, or training support in Army/Defence
  • Strong knowledge of Army training frameworks and planning processes
  • Clear documentation skills and stakeholder communication
  • Willingness for Defence travel and field work
