TL;DR

Lead Communications Systems Engineer (RF/Defense): Lead design and development of cutting-edge communications and data link systems to interconnect Coherent Distributed Networks with an accent on directive data links, RF signature reduction, and accurate time-transfer algorithms. Focus on implementing GPS-independent positioning, advanced directional beamforming, and optimizing algorithms for real-time performance in tactical environments.

Location: Full-time onsite at our office in Hawthorne, CA or San Diego, CA, United States

Salary: $110,000 - $240,000

What you will do

  • Design and develop advanced directive data links to connect nodes in a CDN and reduce RF signature
  • Incorporate highly accurate time-transfer algorithms and implement GPS-independent node positioning
  • Develop low-cost, robust hardware for data links in tactical environments between mobile nodes
  • Implement and optimize algorithms for directional beamforming, real-time performance, and resource constraints in software (C++, Python, MATLAB) or hardware (FPGAs, DSPs)
  • Analyze radar data, develop system simulations/models, and implement algorithms to reduce network data transfer
  • Contribute to system requirements, plan field tests, document findings, mentor junior engineers, and lead multidisciplinary team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or equivalent +10 years experience in directional communications systems
  • Systems engineering experience with RF systems
  • Expertise in digital signal processing (modulation, filtering, detection), algorithm development, and data analysis
  • Strong familiarity with Python or MATLAB
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively

Nice to have

  • Graduate degree in STEM
  • Experience with C++
  • Deep understanding of radar systems, principles, signal processing, waveform design, matched filtering, doppler processing, clutter rejection
  • Strong foundation in Systems Engineering V-model
