TL;DR

Property Claims Handler (High Net Worth Household & Commercial): Manage a portfolio of mainly escape of water, fire and flood claims from first notification to settlement with an accent on assessing coverage, coordinating experts, agreeing repair strategies, and supporting high net worth and commercial clients. Focus on validating and negotiating claims, liaising with customers and contractors, and providing technical advice and risk management recommendations.

Location: Hybrid - two days a week in the office in Colchester or York, three days working from home

What you will do

  • Deliver premium customer service, manage claims from investigation to settlement, and create bespoke action plans
  • Validate, negotiate, and settle claims fairly while controlling costs and ensuring prompt resolution
  • Liaise with customers, brokers, contractors, surveyors, and suppliers to guide repair projects on time and budget
  • Provide technical advice, support the team, and share knowledge to develop others
  • Handle enquiries, identify escalations, and deliver risk management recommendations to policyholders and underwriters
  • Meet SLAs, record information consistently, and work autonomously with initiative

Requirements

  • Proven claims handling experience across household and commercial risks, ideally escape of water, fire and flood
  • Solid understanding of building construction and drying techniques
  • Demonstrable technical claims handling experience and ability to work independently within guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, collaborative team player comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Copilot
  • Ability to support and coach junior team members

Nice to have

  • ACII/ACILA or progression towards it (required if not held)
  • British Disaster Management Association qualifications or equivalent
  • Risk management knowledge
