Hydro Field Engineer

TL;DR

Hydro Field Engineer (Hydropower): Technical preparation, documentation, and support for installation of hydroelectric turbines, generators, gates, valves, and automation systems with an accent on design reviews, special tooling, and risk reduction. Focus on enhancing site team excellence through training, calculations, problem-solving, and lessons learned implementation.

Location: Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Canada. Hybrid work mode, location flexible. Legal status to work in Canada is required. Available for short visits to project sites in Canada and overseas.

What you will do

• Review technical specifications, contribute to design reviews, and propose changes to improve safety, quality, and reduce installation risks and costs.
• Lead design of special tooling like cribbing, rigging, and handling plans; ensure timely field technical documentation.
• Provide technical support, training, and mentoring to field service teams during project execution.
• Perform analysis, installation calculations, and collaborate on resolving complex site problems.
• Participate in lessons learned and implement technical improvements; document best practices.
• Contribute to Generator Stator Winding Training Center.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical Engineering.
• Member of Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (or eligible to become).
• 3 to 5 years of experience in hydroelectric turbine-generator installation or design.
• Fluent in French and English for site work across Canada.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, autonomy, multitasking, and customer orientation.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of electrical and controls.
• Commissioning experience.
