Survey Engineer

TL;DR

Survey Engineer (Metocean/Offshore): Contribute to successful delivery of complex marine projects using advanced metocean equipment and supporting offshore campaigns with an accent on equipment maintenance, survey operations, and data processing. Focus on operational planning, dynamic risk assessments, mentoring graduates, and improving safety and efficiency.

Location: Onsite in Wallingford, Oxfordshire or Portchester, United Kingdom. Ability to travel offshore for 70-100 days per year, including weekdays and weekends. Valid offshore certifications required (GWO/BOSIET, OGUK/ENG1 medical, working at height, slinger/signaller).

What you will do

• Use, maintain, and troubleshoot metocean equipment like wave buoys, tide gauges, and meteorological stations.
• Support and supervise survey mobilisations/demobilisations, mentor juniors, and conduct dynamic risk assessments.
• Assist project managers with planning, vessel liaison, equipment purchases, and small project responsibility.
• Handle client communication, tender input, out-of-hours duty, and operational troubleshooting.
• Process datasets, create data displays, write/review reports, and peer review documentation.
• Follow health, safety, quality systems and maintain professional teamwork.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in oceanography, science, instrumentation, engineering (electrical/mechanical) or equivalent vocational qualification.
• At least 1 year relevant technical/operational experience.
• Intermediate knowledge of oceanographic/metocean principles, marine planning, data acquisition/analysis.
• Proficiency in English.
• Valid certifications: GWO/BOSIET, first aid, offshore medical (OGUK/ENG1), working at height, slinger/signaller; full driving licence.
• Physical fitness for offshore work (70-100 days/year); out-of-hours support availability.
