Salary: $218,025 — $256,500 USD

What you will do

• Own the technical roadmap for Tax Engineering, driving the architecture and execution for cost basis tracking, gain/loss calculation, withholding automation, and reporting infrastructure.
• Lead and grow a high-performing team of 12 engineers, coaching them to deliver impact while supporting their career development.
• Build the tax primitives for new products as hirify.global expands into equities, margin, options, and beyond.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and trading teams to translate complex tax and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Drive delivery of mission-critical systems including 1099-B and 1099-DA broker reporting pipelines, automated withholding deduction, and clearing integrations with Apex.
• Shape engineering processes and practices that enable fast, high-quality execution in a domain where correctness is paramount.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep expertise in building and scaling distributed systems.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience, including coaching engineers, managing performance, and building high-performing teams.
• Technical depth equivalent to a Staff Engineer.
• Proven experience building data-intensive systems where accuracy, auditability, and scale are all critical.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture, data pipelines, and the trade-offs involved in building reliable infrastructure that processes high-volume, high-stakes transactions.
• Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product, Legal, Compliance, or Finance teams to translate complex requirements into technical solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with tax systems, cost basis engines, 1099 reporting, or financial compliance infrastructure.
• Familiarity with equities, options, or margin trading or strong interest in learning trading/brokerage domains.
• Background at a tech-focused company (fintech, crypto, high-growth startup) rather than traditional finance.
