TL;DR

Sr. Systems Safety Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and architecting safety-critical flight systems for autonomous aviation with an accent on regulatory compliance and safety methodologies. Focus on generating safety artifacts, performing reliability assessments, and ensuring certifiable system design in a dynamic startup environment.

Location: Must be based in the U.S. (Remote or Hybrid in Mountain View, CA).

Compensation: $190,000 – $300,000 + Equity.

What you will do

  • Apply systems safety methodologies to support the development of certifiable flight systems.
  • Generate safety artifacts including FHAs and Safety Assessments for aircraft and equipment.
  • Develop new processes and methodologies for certifying autonomous and remote operations.
  • Perform reliability and testability assessments to validate safety requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistency between safety and development activities.
  • Support flight operations with safety assessments for experimental testing.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. person (citizen, permanent resident, or asylee) due to U.S. export control regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in safety engineering for complex, safety-critical aerospace systems.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally across multiple organizations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience certifying flight-critical systems via ARP4754A and ARP4761.
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain regulatory acceptance of safety documentation.
