TL;DR

Senior Safety Process Engineer (Robotics): Building and executing safety engineering processes for an autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) portfolio with an accent on functional safety, certification plans, and validation strategies. Focus on translating safety objectives into design requirements and ensuring compliance with international safety standards for complex electromechanical systems.

Location: Hybrid - Warren, Michigan. Must have US work authorization; no immigration sponsorship provided.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute safety design requirements for autonomous mobile robotics programs in partnership with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain core safety deliverables including hazard analyses, risk assessments, reliability diagrams, and validation documentation.
  • Lead product certification efforts, preparing technical documentation and evidence packages for external partners.
  • Integrate safety-by-design principles across sensors, controllers, navigation systems, and electrical architectures.
  • Plan and execute safety process activities to achieve internal GM milestones (g-Risk and green tag readiness).
  • Track and resolve safety issues and documentation gaps through structured follow-up and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in functional, system, or machine safety for complex electromechanical systems or robotics platforms.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ISO 12100, ISO 3691-4, ANSI B56.5, or UL.
  • Experience creating structured safety documentation and validation evidence for certification.
  • Strong analytical skills for risk assessment and root cause analysis.
  • Must not require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Deep understanding of AMR technologies (LiDAR, safety PLCs, fail-safe actuators, safety-rated sensors).
  • Proficiency with FMEA, FMEDA, fault analysis, and performance level calculations.
  • Experience supporting third-party certification for robotics or safety-critical products.
  • Familiarity with CI practices, machine learning, simulation methods, and data acquisition systems.
