Lead Power Systems Engineer (Data Centers)

Location: United States; remote workplace. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% is required.

What you will do

• Lead the design of grid-to-data-center power architectures for individual site loads of approximately 50 MW.
• Define high-reliability substations, medium- and low-voltage distribution, generation, BESS, PV, UPS, and data hall integration.
• Lead FMEA, short-circuit, protection coordination, reliability, maintainability, and concurrent-maintenance studies.
• Develop control strategies for dispatch, load shedding, islanding, resynchronization, black-start, and degraded-mode operation.
• Engage with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, interconnection authorities, EPCs, OEMs, and equipment suppliers.
• Provide technical oversight through design reviews, FATs, SATs, commissioning, energization, troubleshooting, and lifecycle upgrades.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 8 years of power system design experience in mission-critical, industrial, utility-scale, or data center environments.
• Strong expertise in high-reliability substations, MV/LV distribution, protection and control, generator and UPS systems, DERs, and microgrids.
• Proficiency with load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, and arc-flash analysis tools.
• Understanding of electrical codes, standards, and best practices applicable to data centers, with the ability to balance reliability, cost, constructability, and scalability.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check. hirify.global participates in E-Verify.

Nice to have

• At least 3 years of BESS or PV project experience.
• Experience with grid-interactive or grid-forming power systems.
• Experience with low-carbon generation, energy optimization, and permitting processes.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
