Head of Weather Systems (Robotics): Designing and developing automated weather monitoring and risk enforcement systems for autonomous drone logistics with an accent on real-time go/no-go decisions and meteorological validation. Focus on integrating geospatial datasets, building high-fidelity weather models for flight simulation, and scaling ground/air-based sensing.

Location: Must be based in South San Francisco, CA (minimum 5 days per week in office)

Salary: $235,000 – $255,000

What you will do

• Lead the development of automated weather monitoring systems for real-time mission decisions and forecasting.
• Define flyable weather requirements to balance business performance with automated risk management.
• Develop weather-related validation strategies using simulation and real-world data.
• Collaborate with customer, fulfillment, and flight operations to manage system uptime and expectations.
• Drive the development of scalable ground- and air-based sensing for risk posture calculations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience with a proven track record of leading small teams (3-5 reports).
• Advanced proficiency in scientific Python (Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, Matplotlib, XArray, NETCDF).
• Experience with geospatial and meteorological datasets, distributed systems, and Kafka.
• Strong mastery of descriptive statistics, probability, linear algebra, and machine learning.
• Deep understanding of meteorology and climatology physics.
• Must be eligible to work in the US and able to travel globally.

Nice to have

• Experience with aircraft flight, aviation weather, and regulations.
• Proficiency in Rust or C++.
• Cloud-native experience with Kubernetes and AWS.
