What you will do

• Build and lead a high-performing team of software engineers, focusing on hiring and professional growth.
• Collaborate with data scientists and geoscientists to prioritize and deliver technical projects.
• Define strategy for technical products and organizational structure alongside the Head of Data Systems Engineering.
• Work cross-functionally to translate complex scientific problems into technical requirements.
• Act as an individual contributor for approximately 1/3 of the time.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
• 8+ years of experience building production software systems.
• 3+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct reports.
• Deep understanding of database and data storage technologies.
• Experience building robust distributed cloud data systems.
• Formal education or job exposure to natural sciences.

Nice to have

• Experience building systems managing large geospatial or geoscientific datasets.
• Eagerness to learn about the geology domain and work directly with field geologists.
• Experience in fast-growing early-stage environments.
