Backend Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend APIs and services for AI assistants and chatbots.
• Develop AI tools and functions that retrieve business data and execute actions through backend systems.
• Build LLM-powered conversational workflows involving tool calling, function calling, intent detection, and multi-step execution.
• Integrate AI assistants with internal systems, databases, APIs, and downstream services.
• Develop scalable and event-driven services using TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Kafka, queues, and Azure.
• Optimize performance, write automated tests, monitor production services, troubleshoot issues, and participate in architecture discussions and code reviews.

Requirements

• Approximately 5+ years of professional software or backend development experience.
• Strong experience with TypeScript and Node.js, plus good working proficiency in Python and preferably FastAPI.
• Hands-on experience building or integrating AI chatbots, AI assistants, conversational AI, or LLM-powered applications.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL or other relational databases, and an ORM such as Drizzle, Prisma, TypeORM, Sequelize, or SQLAlchemy.
• Understanding of caching, asynchronous programming, event-driven architectures, cloud environments, and production troubleshooting.
• English proficiency is required; the role is based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Nice to have

• Experience with Next.js, tRPC, Drizzle ORM, Redis, Kafka, WebSocket, Server-Sent Events, and Azure services.
• Experience working in a small, collaborative engineering team and Agile, ticket-based environments.
