Senior Staff Software Engineer (AI/Medical Devices)

Location: Remote within the United States

Salary: $172,800–$324,000 per year, depending on US geographic pay tier, skills, experience, education, and location.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end software architecture for a regulated cardiac diagnostic platform spanning Linux-based devices, AWS cloud services, data platforms, ML pipelines, and clinical software.
• Design flexible interfaces and maintain data confidentiality, integrity, availability, and HIPAA compliance across the sensor-to-cloud data path.
• Write production code, review complex pull requests, define testing strategy, and ensure software correctness across device, cloud, and customer-facing interfaces.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers while raising standards for architecture, design reviews, code quality, technical documentation, and regulated product development.
• Partner with Product, Clinical, and Regulatory stakeholders to translate requirements and clinical goals into technical plans, specifications, and delivery timelines.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 4 years as a technical lead or architect for complex distributed and cloud-heavy systems.
• Experience delivering regulated software through a quality-management system and the full product lifecycle, including medical-device software under IEC 62304 Class B/C.
• Mastery of at least one modern systems language: Rust, C++, Go, or Python.
• Experience with AWS, Terraform, Docker or Kubernetes, and observability tools such as CloudWatch or Datadog.
• Experience designing HIPAA- or GDPR-compliant systems with encryption, audit logging, secure data transmission, and connected-device security.
• Hands-on experience integrating with hospital IT systems such as Epic or Cerner using HL7 or FHIR.

Nice to have

• Experience commercializing Software as a Medical Device products.
• Background in PKI, device authentication, or threat modeling for connected devices.
• Knowledge of cardiology, cardiac diagnostics, ECG workflows, or physiological monitoring platforms.
• Experience in aerospace, automotive, or life sciences software development.
