What you will do
- Own database performance, query optimization, and capacity planning end-to-end.
- Design caching infrastructure to minimize EHR API latency in critical user paths.
- Implement rate limiting, circuit breakers, and load shedding to maintain system stability.
- Build and maintain observability tools to monitor database performance, connection pools, and cache hit rates.
- Collaborate across teams to debug complex production performance issues.
- Define technical direction for infrastructure scaling as the company grows.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 3 years in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
- Demonstrated experience at the Staff level owning cross-cutting infrastructure and debugging complex production issues.
- Strong backend fundamentals in Python, Go, or TypeScript.
- Deep expertise in relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.
- Ability to read code across the full stack to trace and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Must be based in the San Francisco area and willing to work in-office 3 days per week.
