Principal Software Development Engineer (Cloud Platform)

Salary: $249,000–$348,500 total cash annually, with potential pay up to $398,500 based on sustained performance.

What you will do

• Lead the evolution toward cell-based architecture with isolated and predictable failure domains.
• Define Kubernetes and infrastructure strategy covering multi-cluster management, service mesh, automated scaling, and Golden Path developer workflows.
• Set organization-wide SRE standards covering causal observability, automated incident response, and SLO/SLI management.
• Lead technical FinOps strategy and build visibility into cost per service and infrastructure value.
• Develop standardized Dev Containers and ephemeral environments that support fast, isolated development.
• Serve as the technical architect for the Cloud Platform organization and guide multiple teams toward a coherent long-term direction.

Requirements

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native distributed systems and Kubernetes platform services.
• Experience owning critical services or multi-service platforms, including system and API design, data modeling, deployment, and operational health.
• Deep expertise in a major public cloud provider and platform technologies covering compute, networking, storage, service discovery, security, observability, and CI/CD.
• Expert knowledge of OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, distributed tracing, Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or Pulumi, and CI/CD at scale.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust, or a similar modern platform engineering language.
• Familiarity with AI-driven systems, AI/ML workflows, and applying AI/ML concepts in cloud or platform environments.

Nice to have

• Experience defining multi-year cloud and developer platform strategies and driving adoption across many teams.
• Experience operating highly available, globally distributed systems at internet scale.
• Experience integrating AI/ML solutions for intelligent routing, predictive scaling, automated remediation, cost optimization, anomaly detection, or performance tuning.
• Experience with AWS or GCP, deep networking knowledge, failure-domain design, capacity planning, and unit economics.
• Experience carrying a pager for global-scale systems and prototyping complex infrastructure changes hands-on.
