Senior Software Engineer (Platform Engineering)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid schedule with required in-office work three days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Base salary: $156,000–$195,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain platform tooling, automation, shared services, and foundational backend systems.
• Improve observability through logging, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and production diagnostics.
• Build internal tools and workflows supporting development, testing, deployment, and service operations.
• Partner with product engineering, infrastructure, and platform teams to solve scalability and operational challenges.
• Support service hardening, migrations, modernization, and production-readiness initiatives.
• Advocate for software quality, deployment safety, infrastructure automation, and reliable engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in backend systems, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or developer tooling.
• Strong programming skills in at least one backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python.
• Understanding of distributed systems, service architecture, APIs, production operations, and software testing.
• Experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, observability, CI/CD, incident response, and deployment tooling.
• Working knowledge of Terraform, Helm, or Kustomize and experience with platform or cloud security, including Kubernetes security, container hardening, IAM, and policy enforcement.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; experience with AI-assisted development workflows is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with incident management, postmortems, high-availability systems, or zero-downtime migrations.
• Familiarity with Kafka/MSK, Kinesis, SQS, GitHub Actions, internal CLIs, Wiz, or Semgrep.
• Experience modernizing legacy backend systems or improving shared platform architecture at scale.
