Principal Network Security Engineer (Cisco)

Location: Tysons, Virginia, United States; office attendance 4 days per week

Base salary: $167,500–$185,250 per year

What you will do

• Administer, monitor, optimize, and secure Cisco networking infrastructure, including firewalls, identity, and network analytics platforms.
• Perform upgrades, patching, configuration changes, network segmentation, access control, and secure remote access management.
• Deploy and tune perimeter defense, intrusion detection, DDoS protection, application delivery, and web application security solutions.
• Monitor telemetry and logs, investigate network and security incidents, and support vulnerability remediation and compliance activities.
• Design secure architectures across cloud and datacenter environments with infrastructure and application teams.
• Automate repeatable network and security processes, maintain documentation and runbooks, and mentor junior staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of enterprise networking and security experience with significant hands-on Cisco platform management.
• Strong knowledge of firewalls, perimeter defense, intrusion detection and prevention, network access control, Layer 2/3 networking, VPNs, and secure remote access.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP security in hybrid enterprise environments, application delivery controllers, web application security, and infrastructure patch management.
• Experience analyzing network and endpoint telemetry, investigating security events, automating network and security management, and supporting vulnerability management.
• Strong communication, collaboration, documentation, change management, and mentoring skills; relevant certifications such as CCNP Security or CISSP are preferred.
