What you will do

• Develop and deploy LLM/NLU systems to extract information from medical documents and classify patients.
• Establish best practices for AI reliability, evaluation frameworks, and model governance.
• Build and scale efficient data pipelines while adhering to strict privacy standards.
• Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate complex AI features into the production platform.
• Design explainable AI solutions to provide transparency for healthcare professionals.

Requirements

• Must be able to work on-site in San Francisco 2-3 days per week.
• 5+ years of experience in backend or data engineering in production environments.
• Proven experience developing LLM-based systems for unstructured record ingestion and evaluation.
• Deep understanding of LLM limitations and best practices for reliable, consistent outputs.
• Ability to work as a generalist across backend, data, and AI infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Experience working with medical records and healthcare compliance (HIPAA).
• Hands-on experience with Python-based data science and ML libraries.
• Knowledge of modern MLOps and AI infrastructure scaling.
